The
Office of Economic Policy, U.S. Treasury Department is currently looking for
college students interested in Economics or Public Policy for our Fall
2019 internship session. Internships will be
from September 9, 2019 – December 13, 2019.
Interns will work within the office of the Assistant
Secretary for Economic Policy on microeconomic and macroeconomic issues bearing
on U.S. economic performance and the well-being of Americans. Interns will have the opportunity to work
with senior economists on a wide
variety of highly sophisticated and in-depth studies in a number of areas,
including (but not limited to) the Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid
programs; housing; labor markets; education; energy and the environment; and
agriculture. The results of these
analyses are used as major inputs for developing Treasury and Administration
economic policy positions.
Our
program runs year round with three sessions:
January through May, May through August, and September through
December. Interns are generally
assigned a long-term research project as well as smaller projects. They
are also expected to attend Congressional Hearings and think tank lectures and
presentations and summarize these events for the Assistant Secretary and other
senior level economists.
Candidates
should have strong writing skills, be able to work independently, be well
organized and highly motivated. Familiarity with software packages Microsoft
Office suite, Stata, Matlab, SAS, or R is a plus. Interns are expected to work between 30 and 40
hours a week, though we allow flexibility for required class time. Our
intern positions are unpaid, however, we are able to subsidize public
transportation costs.
