You may be eligible to apply for the U.S. State Department’s Gilman Scholarship, which provides up to $5,000 for study abroad and up to $8,000 if you are studying a critical language. In the last three years, 100 UMD undergraduate students have won Gilman Scholarship!
Attend an upcoming information sessions and you'll get access to the ELMS Gilman resource site, which includes samples of successful application essays. You'll also learn how you can earn an automatic $1,000 grant from the UMD Education Abroad office for completing a Gilman application!

To be eligible, students must be:
- a U.S. citizen
- a Pell Grant recipient
- a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior (includes all majors)
- studying abroad for at least 21 days
