Job Opportunities Available at the SEC

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC is seeking multiple Research Associate positions, for the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis (DERA). Candidates should have a BA/BS or Master’s Degree in Economics or Accounting. Expertise in applied microeconomics fields such as finance, industrial organization, public policy, and labor is a plus. We seek individuals with a track record of creative thinking, strong empirical research abilities, team work, and excellent communication skills. Interest in finance, securities markets and public policy is essential given our mission. In all roles, candidates must demonstrate their ability to apply their knowledge of economics and econometrics in support of the SEC's mission to protect investors, facilitate capital formation, and ensure fair and orderly markets. Please note: Non-Citizens holding only a visa authorizing admission to the U.S. are not eligible for this position.

The SEC is recruiting for two different types of Research Associate positions: Economist and Statistician . All candidates are encouraged to apply for both types of positions.
  1. “Economist”: Candidate duties may include providing research, analysis, and advice to DERA and SEC staff and building economic models, determining empirical methodology, organizing data collection, and summarizing studies in formal and informal presentations. "Statistician": Candidate duties may include performing statistical analysis, interpretation, and presentation of economic data as well providing statistical advice and recommendations concerning statistical methods and procedures as applied to the analysis of economic data.
