UMD Undergraduate Climate Finance Project Award Competition Academic Year 2025-2026
The Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Department (AOSC) in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences and the Finance Department in the Robert H. Smith School of Business announce the fifth year of a competition intended to stimulate collaboration among undergraduate students to address the challenges of climate change. This competition recognizes the growing importance of effective partnerships in solving these major climate-related problems. Students from all majors are welcome! To be eligible, teams must be composed of two to four current UMCP undergraduate students, with the condition that at least one team member be an AOSC major and at least one team member be a Smith School of Business Finance major. A third or fourth team member may be a major in any department. If you want to participate but don’t know students in other departments, we will help you join a team. Just add your information to the form below.
The teams will present the results of their projects to a group of faculty and students near the end of the Spring semester (Date TBD), who will determine the winners. The awards will be $2000 for each member of the 1st place team, $1500 for each member of the 2nd place team, and $1000 for each member of the 3rd place team. Members of non-placing teams will each receive $500.

The ideal candidate for this position has:
· A strong interest in and intuition for applied microeconomics;
· Proficiency in programming languages widely used in economics, statistics, and/or data science such as Stata, R, or Python;
· Excitement about conducting data analysis on a wide range of datasets in support of consumer protection and competition missions of the FTC;
· Interest and aptitude in working with PhD economists on economics research projects that serve the mission of the FTC; and
· A desire to grow and build on skills in data analysis and microeconomics.

· A strong interest in and aptitude for applied microeconomics, data analysis, and computer programming;

Over the past 5 years, research fellows have matriculated in PhD programs at: Harvard (Economics), Berkeley, (Economics), Columbia (Economics), Harvard (Sociology), Harvard (Health Policy), MIT (Economics), Northwestern (Economics), UC San Diego (Economics), University of Chicago (Economics), Cambridge (Economics), University of Pennsylvania (Economics), University of Pennsylvania (Finance). In the past 5 years, fellows have also matriculated in law school at Stanford Law School, Yale Law School, and Cornell Law School.
Participation in this fellowship opportunity allows you to take and audit Stanford courses and attend on-campus lectures and seminars free of charge. In addition, incumbents in this fellowship will be eligible to take one course per quarter, not to exceed a maximum of 5 units (for which departments will pay a discounted fee), with approval from your faculty supervisor.

The Maryland State Retirement and Pension Systems is currently hiring for a Summer Investment Associate Intern. The Maryland State Retirement Agency (the “Agency”) is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (the “System”). The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 205,000 active members and more than 175,000 retirees and beneficiaries.
The Investment Division of the Maryland State Retirement Agency seeks two bright, highly motivated individuals to join our Investment Associate Internship Program. Each Intern will have a hands-on opportunity to apply what has been learned in the classroom to a real world, large-scale investment operation.
