Impact issues that matter this summer with the Fund!

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that
works to build support for progressive organizations across the country. We
run campaigns for the Human Rights Campaign, USPIRG, and Environment America.  This summer we will be in over 50 cities, including our local Maryland office in College Park, working and lobbying to help win environmental and social justice campaigns.

Last summer our staff helped stop toxic gas drilling, worked to end subsidies
for junk food, and built support for equal rights for all Americans- all
while building valuable leadership skills. Currently, we have paid positions
open on our campaign staff in each of our locations. We require that
interested candidates are hard workers and have excellent communication
skills. As a member of our staff, you will fundraise, build membership for our
partner groups, and educate and activate citizens on pressing issues. You
will also have the opportunity to organize press conferences and build
coalitions with other non-profit organizations. While on staff, you gain
knowledge of pressing concerns our country is facing, learn how to
effectively generate public support, and obtain a firm understanding of the
political process.

New York State Division of the Budget - Budget Specialist

For more than 80 years, the New York State Division of the Budget has been the primary fiscal advisor to the Governor, developing, negotiating, and implementing one of the largest government budgets in the country. American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research - Fall Intern: Economic Policy

Scholars within the economics department at AEI cover a broad range of issues including tax policy, the U.S. economy, the stock market, social security, and investments. Interns will assist the director of economic policy studies, Kevin Hassett, and his research team with a broad range of projects and topical areas. Primary assignments may include scholarly research, event and conference planning, and writing economic briefs. Candidates must have excellent writing, analytical, and research skills. Experience with Excel and Stata preferred.

American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI) - Fall Intern: International Trade and Finance

Resident Scholar Claude Barfield's primary areas of study include international trade policy, U.S. competitiveness, and science and technology policy. Interns will assist with research projects focusing on free trade agreements, international investment, U.S. trade policy, and Asian regionalism. Economics or public policy students are preferred. Proficiency with Excel and statistical software packages a plus.

The Foundation on Economic Trends - Intern

The Office of Jeremy Rifkin offers internships in the Washington, DC area for individuals with interest in working for a progressive public policy organization focusing on emerging trends in science and technology and their impacts on the environment, the economy, culture and society. We generally admit 1-2 individuals for unpaid internships lasting approximately 3-4 months, beginning in January, May, and September. College credit can be arranged.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The intern will work with President and other staff members to gain valuable experience in a number of different areas:

• Research for public policy initiatives, book project, and current events
• Making phone calls for networking
• Preparation and editing of print materials
• Managing research files and creating electronic databases

Jubilee USA Network - Policy and Advocacy Associate

The Policy and Advocacy Associate position is an internship that works closely with Jubilee USA's policy team on our newest advocacy campaigns. Encompassing both policy and advocacy, this position will include a wide range of research, writing, lobbying, outreach, organizing and policy education that supports Jubilee's campaign priorities. Tasks include:

• Maintain Jubilee's advocacy databases
• Support the policy and advocacy team in communications with Congress and DC-based partner organizations
• Update advocacy-related content for Jubilee website
• Research and write Jubilee materials used for outreach to policymakers and the public
• Assist in outreach to Jubilee's grassroots community, through phone calls, email communication and meetings on specific campaigns
• Communicate with faith communities about newest activities and campaigns
• Work closely with Jubilee's advocacy team to design and implement grassroots campaigns including grassroots-friendly education, worship and campaign materials
• Work closely with and support a network of volunteers across the country
• Design and implement e-activism and new media campaigns
• Provide administrative support including:
• Data entry: Entering new supporters and updating existing supporters in our databases
• Office functions: Assist with mailings and other related administrative work to support Jubilee's grassroots, development and policy activities
• Attend Jubilee USA Network meetings, coalition events and related conferences

The Borgen Project - Political Affairs Internship

This is a part-time 12-hours per week telecommuting internship. The internship is 4 months and responsible for leading public and political outreach in the state and district assigned to. Must be available Monday’s 4:30-6:00 PM PST for The Borgen Project’s national conference call.

Key Responsibilities:

· Meet with members of Congress and/or Congressional staffers in your State and District.
· Represent The Borgen Project at various business, political and community events.
· Assist with fundraising. Create a personal fundraising campaign and meet targets.
· Mobilize individuals to contact their members of Congress in support of key poverty-reduction legislation.
· As needed, speak to groups, classes and organizations.
· Write letters of support for key programs to political leaders, media and other groups.

Qualifications:

· Outstanding writing skills.
· Self-starter who can produce great results with limited supervision
· Strong oral communication skills and ability to lead meetings and give speeches.
