The Data and Analytics Group is dedicated to supporting the broader research division and the firm’s overall membership through quantitative analytics and the development of novel web-based tools and applications. The incumbent will play a key role in new initiatives within the division as well as enhancements to existing systems.

ActionAid USA - International Development Policy Fellow

Description

We are currently seeking an International Development Policy Fellow to work in our Washington, DC office.

ActionAid is a global movement of people working together to achieve greater human rights for all and defeat poverty. We believe people in poverty have the power to create change for themselves, their families and communities. ActionAid is a catalyst for that change.

The fellowship period spans from September 2014 until December 2014, but exact dates are flexible. Applicants willing to extend the duration of the fellowship through May 2015 are preferred. We are looking for someone who can commit to a full-time schedule, or nearly full-time schedule. The position offers a monthly stipend.
Description:

This fellowship position seeks a candidate interested in international development policy and issues related to land rights, global hunger, food sovereignty, and advocacy for a just reconstruction in Haiti. The position is open to students with interest and experience in the field of international development.

The positions will support ActionAid USA’s ongoing policy and campaign work on international development policy, with a focus on agricultural development policy, biofuels, and/or Haiti policy. Activities will include research, writing and production of materials, event planning, attending meetings, and some administration.

Department of Homeland Security - Contract Specialist

Description

Major Duties:
  • Reviews requisitions to determine that proper specifications/purchase descriptions are included in solicitation documents.
  • Evaluates bids or proposals for compliance with specifications/purchase descriptions and applicable clauses.
  • Administers previously negotiate and formally advertised contracts.
  • Participates with higher level specialists in procurement using formal advertisement.
  • Participates as a team member on an Acquisition Management Review Team or equivalent assignment.
Qualifications
 
To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must possess one of the following:

 A. A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, law, contracts, purchasing, economics, industrial management, marketing, quantitative methods, or organization and management, AND I meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: a) A grade point average of B (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last 2 full years of undergraduate study; or b) A grade point average of B+ (a GPA of 3.5 or higher) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; or c) Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision; or d) Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies and/or Baird's Manual of American College Fraternities. UMD Center for Advanced Study of Language Looking for Paid Research Participants for Various Studies

Do you study Spanish? Participate in a study! 

The Language Learning and Cognition Study is recruiting participants!  Participate in 14 sessions of 1-2 hours each at the Patapsco building (a short walk from College Park Metro, accessible by Shuttle #104).

You will be asked to complete cognitive tasks and questionnaires, as well as training tasks on an iPad.

Receive $240 for completing the study ($5 each for sessions 1-13, and $175 at the final session).  After completing session 14, you will get a raffle entry to win one of 10 $200 gift cards!

Eligibility criteria include (see website for full list):
-18-30 years of age
-monolingual native speaker of English
-currently enrolled in a 300-level Spanish course or completed a 300-level Spanish course within the past year
-not started studying Spanish before age 12
-no immersion experience of longer than 1 month in a Spanish-speaking country

Paid Cognitive Preparedness MRI Study ($60)


We would like to invite you to participate in a paid research study for the University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language. In one 3-hour session at the Maryland Neuroimaging Center, you will complete tasks while undergoing MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and eyetracking to examine the attention-related cognitive and neural systems that support language processing. If you are eligible and complete the MRI session, you will earn $20 per hour!

Auditory Training Study

Earn a little cash this summer by participating in a GVPT bargaining experiment

On Thursday, August 7th, at 2:00pm and 3:30pm in 4101 Chincoteague Hall, I will be conducting an experiment in the form of a simple computerized bargaining game. You are invited to participate in this experiment. You will be paid $6 for agreeing to participate, and you may earn up to a maximum of an additional $50 based on how you play the game. Most participants generally earn between an additional $20 and $30. The experiment will take no more than 45 minutes to complete, and you will be paid in cash at the end.
