TAMID Hosting Guest Speaker: Lior Shilat, Director of Investments at the Israeli Embassy
Interested in networking with former Fortune 500 CEOs, local venture capitalists, and fostering relationships with innovative companies in one of the world’s most dynamic and flourishing economies? The fresh face in investing, entrepreneurship, and foreign engagement on campus, the TAMID Israel Investment Group is an apolitical student run organization that aims to connect business minded students with the Israeli economy and its burgeoning leaders. After mastering the essentials of investing and the intricacies of the Israeli economy, the program ultimately culminates with a fully funded summer fellowship in Israel, in which participants will work with prestigious Israeli companies and immerse themselves in the culture.
For our first event we will be hosting Lior Shilat, the Director of Investments at the Israeli Embassy, to speak on the current state of the Israeli economy. This is an open invitation for anyone interested, especially those thinking about joining TAMID when it fully launches next fall.
The event will take place on Monday, April 2nd at 7 PM in the multipurpose room in the Maryland Hillel building. Refreshments and light food will be served.

Office of Tax Analysis, U.S Dept. of Treasury - Junior Surrey Fellowship
The Office of Tax Analysis (OTA) of the U.S. Department of the Treasury is interested in interviewing exceptionally talented individuals who have recently completed or are about to complete Bachelor’’s degrees in economics, public policy, or other related fields. Junior Surrey Fellows will serve as Research Assistants for two years and provide economic research and administrative support to the senior economists in OTA. Junior Surrey Fellows will be selected on the basis of outstanding academic achievement and professional recommendations.
Functions of the Office
The Office of Tax Analysis advises the President, the Secretary of the Treasury, and the Congress on the economic and revenue effects of current and proposed Federal tax policies. These tax policies directly and indirectly affect a wide range of nontax public policies, including health, pensions, welfare, labor, education, housing, financial institutions, the environment and energy. OTA staff provide tax policy advice in several forms: Administration tax proposals; reports to the President and to the Congress; Congressional testimony for top Treasury officials; background analyses, briefing papers, and revenue effects of tax proposals; estimates of receipts and tax expenditures for the President's Budget; and participation in the negotiation of bilateral tax treaties. Research Assistants will have the opportunity to support staff economists in several of these areas as well as gain first hand knowledge of how tax policy is researched, written, and enacted in the Federal Government.

Office of Tax Policy staff, (about 50 economists in OTA, 40 attorneys, and support staff) is under the direction of the Assistant Secretary (Tax Policy).

Minor in Survey Methodology
The Joint Program in Survey Methodology is happy to announce that undergraduates can now obtain a minor in Survey Methodology. Knowledge of survey methods is useful in many fields and will provide students with some additional skills when they enter the job market. A brochure describing the program is attached.
The minor requires 16-18 credits:
- 2 statistics and research methods courses ( 6 to 8 credits)
- 1 core course in survey methodology (3 credits)
- 2 additional courses in survey methodology (6 credits)
- Introduction to the Federal Statistical System and to the Survey Research Profession (1 credit seminar)

White House Interns dedicate their time, talents, energy, and service to better the White House, the community, and the nation. They become a part of the White House team, and the assignments given to an intern on any given day could include conducting research, managing incoming inquiries, attending meetings, writing memos, and staffing events. They also participate in a weekly speaker series with senior staff members and small group meetings exploring different policy aspects of the Executive Office of the President through speakers, discussion and off-site field trips. Most importantly, the internship experience includes an emphasis on service and interns participate in regularly scheduled service projects at schools and non-profit organizations in Washington, D.C.

Office of Undergraduate Admissions UMD - Summer Internship
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is looking to hire several paid interns to work in the office throughout the summer of 2012. The primary responsibility of each Intern will be to provide campus tours to prospective students, families and groups visiting campus. Other responsibilities include responding to calls in our Public Inquiry area, staffing the front counter and greeting guests in the Rossborough Inn and Mitchell Building, and collaborating with other individuals on special office projects as assigned.
This is a full-time position for rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors that will require 40 hours/week and several weekend tours throughout the summer. On average each intern will need to commit to 5-7 Saturday tours of their choosing along with mandatory attendance and participation in our annual College Access Conference (Saturday, June 23) for prospective students and their families. Although this is a full-time position, students who are taking summer courses on campus are encouraged to apply as well. Please be advised that it is University policy that no student is permitted to work over 40 hours/week, so if you have another on campus job, please make sure you will not be scheduled during office hours and will not go over 40 hours. If you have an off-campus job, please make sure that you will not be scheduled during office hours before applying.

START Career Development Scholarship Program
The Career Development Program, also known as the Emerging Global Security Issues Fellowship Program, is open to a wide range of majors at the University of Maryland, including all BSOS Majors, Engineering, Math, Economics, Business and many others. This program will provide tuition and stipends to six high-achieving undergraduates interested in social science research, terrorist, and homeland security for their final two years in a University of Maryland bachelor's degree program.
