Maryland Parents Association Student Scholarship

Applications are currently being accepted for the Maryland Parents Association Student Scholarship Awards. The scholarships provide assistance to current undergraduate students in good standing who may be unable to continue their education at the University due to extenuating personal or family financial circumstances. Thanks to the generosity of Chatham, T. Rowe Price Foundation, and parent donors, scholarships of up to $2,000 per student will be awarded for the 2014-2015 academic year. A minimum of 12 scholarships will be awarded.

Award criteria, instructions, and an online application are available at www.studentaffairs.umd.edu/parents/ssa. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014.

BSOS Hosts International Coffee Hour Wednesday!

The College of Behavioral & Social Sciences is hosting International Coffee Hour this Wednesday, April 30, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in Dorchester Lounge.  Come for refreshments, meet BSOS undergraduates, and learn about leadership opportunities including:

Networking Lunch with Dr. Isabella Alcaniz

The BSOS Dean's Student Advisory Council is hosting a networking lunch with Dr. Isabella Alcañiz of the Environmental Politics and Policy department on Friday, April 25th, from 12PM to 1:30PM in a room that is to be determined.

Dr. Alcañiz's work is focused on international environmental policymaking, specifically how environmental bureaucrats cooperate when making policy in the developing world. Dr. Alcañiz has been published in multiple political journals and is currently working on a book which examines the role of science bureaucrats in advancing nuclear science and technology in Latin America, Africa and Asia. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions related to research, internships, or Dr. Alcañiz's background in general. All BSOS majors are welcome.

IEFS Campus Event: Using Economic Data to Improve Lives

International Economics and Finance Society is teaming up with Finance Banking Investment Society to host a presentation by two economists from the US Department of Commerce. These two research professionals will lay out their findings about how large amounts of data can be used to provide the best information to policymakers, leading to better decisions. Additionally, there will be an overview of career opportunities in their field. This is a great event for anyone interested in Economics, Finance, Government, Public Policy, and Statistics.

The event is Tuesday, April 22nd at 7pm in VMH1528. As always, Jimmy John's and soft drinks will be served!
