RESEARCH FELLOW, STANFORD LAW SCHOOL (Fixed term) *multi-job posting

Commitment:
Full-time, starting Spring/Summer 2016. Fellowships last for one year, with an option to renew for a second year by mutual agreement of the professor and the fellow.

Description:
Assist with the research of Professors John J. Donohue, Jacob Goldin, Daniel Ho, Daniel Kessler, and Alison Morantz at Stanford Law School. Designed for graduating seniors or recent college graduates, fellowships provide a unique opportunity for those considering graduate school, law school, and/or business school in the future.

Prior Research Fellows have matriculated to Ph.D. programs at Harvard, Stanford, Yale, and MIT, and law school at Harvard,Yale, Stanford, and Columbia. They have been drawn from a variety of undergraduate disciplines, including economics, political science, applied math, public policy, statistics, and computer science.

Successful applicants will be matched with a specific professor based on background and interests. NEW ACES Cybersecurity Minor for Fall 2016

The ACES Minor takes a multidisciplinary approach to cybersecurity in which students gain knowledge about many of the fields (criminal justice, business, public policy) that intersect in cybersecurity. With an emphasis on hands-on experiences, students will gain practical skills through coursework, seminars, group projects, internships, and research, both on and off campus. Students will also have the opportunity to participate with students in the ACES Living-Learning Program as peer mentors, tutors, and advisors. The minor program will also include regular interactions with corporate and governmental leaders in cybersecurity, who will serve as both mentors and professional contacts.

Winter/Spring 2016 Treasury Department Internship with NPR

Overview:
The Treasury intern participates in all facets of the organization’s Treasury functions including the oversight and management of the daily cash process, developing and maintaining reports on NPR’s long-term investments and debt, and providing support with ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the daily cash process
  • Maintain investment department databases
  • Acquire data from government agencies
  • Process and analyze bank and investment management fees

Research Assistant Position with the Economic Policy Institute

The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) has an immediate opening for at least one research assistant. This exciting position will support the research and writing of economists and policy analysts at EPI. The person(s) hired will work in one or more of the following issue areas: labor market analysis (including wages, employment, and unemployment), health care, education, retirement security, international economics, the federal budget or EPI’s program on race, ethnicity and the economy. The experts at EPI examine each of these issues through a “living standards” lens by analyzing the impact of economic trends and policies on low and moderate-income American households.

The successful candidate will have a BA in economics, math, or other related social science field (e.g., public policy or political science) and will also have strong quantitative skills. The RA is required to be a highly organized and detail-oriented researcher with the ability to gather, analyze, and present a wide variety of economic data. The RA needs to be able to present findings through tables, figures, and literature reviews and needs to meticulously document the work. The RA will also assist in the publications process of reports, issue briefs, blog posts, etc. This position requires strong Excel expertise, including the creation of graphics. It also requires a strong familiarity with some basic economic data concepts, like how to deflate nominal income or wage data to account for inflation. The RA should also have strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work well on a team. Work experience as a research assistant or in a similar position is strongly preferred. Familiarity with labor market and micro survey data and/or experience analyzing data using SAS or STATA are also strongly desired.

DUTIES:


This is a developmental position. Assignments are designed to develop technical competence in the Consumer Price Index Program. In collecting data the economic assistant: (1) contacts previously initiated establishments to price goods and services. Pricing activities include: determination of continued cooperation and eligibility of the establishments; location or previously priced item and verification of accuracy and adequacy of previously reported item specifications; determination of eligibility for continued pricing; determination of actual transaction price; verification and documentation of unusual price changes and/or corrections of previously recorded data based on changes in specifications and selection and identification of new items for item rotation. (2) Visits or contact by telephone assigned housing units and new construction units to secure initial voluntary cooperation from inhabitants, mangers, or owners and re-prices rental units. (3) Ensures the quality of data collection from each sample unit by reviewing electronic collection forms completed on a hand-held PC for internal consistency and for conformance to survey requirements. (4) Provides feedback to the National Office through a variety of methods including a system of outlet and item messages and information/clarification reports. (5) Performs such survey support activities preparing required administrative reports, including travel vouchers and time reports and compiling survey progress reports.

High performing BSOS seniors from any major who wish to apply for one of the five Robert H. Smith School of Business specialty master's programs will be eligible for an application fee waiver, a video submission waiver, as well as an exemption of the GMAT or GRE exam.

The seniors must meet the following criteria:

-At least a cumulative GPA of 3.5
-B or better in statistical analysis or related course
-B or better in Financial and Managerial Accounting (MS in Accounting only)

Note that this is an invitation to apply directly to a Specialty Master's Program and to enroll after you have completed your undergraduate degree in December 2015 or May 2016. This is not the same as the dual Bachelors/Masters Program, which has a separate application and admission criteria.
