Announcing Fall 2025 Do Good Institute Opportunities

I want to share several upcoming opportunities from the Do Good Institute. Some of these programs have deadlines approaching in the next few weeks (September 14 is the first deadline for several programs), so I encourage you to take a look!

The Do Good Institute (dogood.umd.edu) offers immersive programs, funding opportunities, and internship experiences that prepare Terps with the skills, experiences and resources to Do Good throughout their lives. There are several upcoming programs and opportunities you may be interested in for this fall:

Experiential Programs | Deadline: September 14

• Changemaker Pathways: Want to Do Good but don’t know where to start? Explore ways that you can Do Good in your personal, professional and educational life through this 6-week experiential program for first-year, second-year and transfer students. Register now through September 14 at go.umd.edu/changemakerpathways.

• Impact Bootcamp: Take your passion and turn it into progress. Have an idea for impact but unsure where to start? Need help improving your existing efforts? Start or strengthen your social impact alongside fellow changemakers through this 6-week developmental program for students or teams with new ideas or existing initiatives. Register now through September 14 at go.umd.edu/impactbootcamp.

• Accelerator Fellows: Spend the semester scaling and developing your social impact project or venture and receive a $2,000 stipend. Accelerator Fellows is a great fit for students or teams currently in the implementation stage of their work. Apply now through September 14 at go.umd.edu/acceleratorfellows.

Funding Opportunities

• Mini-Grants: Receive $500 in funding to support your social impact on or off campus. Mini-Grants are available for individuals and teams with student-led, student-run proposals engaging in fundraising, service, advocacy, entrepreneurship, research or other activities to Do Good. Apply now through September 14 at go.umd.edu/minigrants.

• Do Good Campus Fund: The Do Good Campus Fund supports the substantial efforts happening across University of Maryland, aimed at reimagining learning and serving humanity both inside and outside the classroom. The Provost and the Do Good Institute will award up to $320,000 this academic year to faculty, staff and student groups for projects to commence in summer or fall 2026. Application opens on September 15 until November 3 at go.umd.edu/dogoodcampusfund.

Apply to join Promoting Achievement and Diversity in Economics (PADE) -- applications due August 21

Economics majors who are interested in pursuing careers or graduate studies in the field are welcome to apply to join Promoting Achievement and Diversity in Economics (PADE). Students who participate in PADE receive mentoring, tutoring and support for relevant coursework, and the chance to speak with professional economists about their careers and research.  PADE aims to increase the diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives of those entering the Economics profession.  You can learn more about the program here:  https://econ.umd.edu/undergraduate/promoting-achievement-and-diversity-economics-pade 

 

PADE is a year-long program that offers study sessions and extra office hours for core classes like ECON321, 325, and 326, and MATH140 and 141. PADE students are supported by Professor Jessica Goldberg, the program’s faculty director, as well as a graduate assistant, and staff in the advising office.  At the beginning of the semester, program staff meet with each student to set personal academic and professional goals, and to agree to a schedule of weekly academic meetings to help achieve those goals.  Those meetings may include regular study sessions or participation in a reading group, with the opportunity to explore the economics research about topics of interest to students.  

 

PADE participants will also have the chance to network with economists working at organizations such as the Federal Reserve Board, the World Bank, and the Brookings Institution, and will receive support in applying for summer internships, on-campus research assistantships and to graduate school in Economics (or related disciplines).

 

The expected time commitment during the academic year is 3-4 hours per week, including time spent reviewing material or assignments for other economics or math classes taken to fulfill requirements for a major in Economics.  Participants receive one credit for Econ 399 each semester.

Research Assistant opportunity at the Brookings Institution!

The Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution is conducting our fall Research Assistant recruitment, for positions starting in summer 2026. We are recruiting for ten research assistants for one- or two-year appointments, preferably beginning between June 1 and August 1, 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates!

Rodler-Wood Endowed Scholarship Application is open

The Rodler-Wood Endowed Scholarship Application is open in Scholarship Universe. Applications for this LGBTQ Studies and community focused award are due April 28th. The Rodler-Wood Endowed Scholarship provides $1,000 to support student success in their upcoming academic year.

Award Selection Criteria (Selection is based on one or more criteria)

• Demonstrated financial need

• Academic interest in LGBTQ Studies

• Extracurricular activities on behalf of LGBTQ issues

• Hardship based on sexual orientation and/or gender identity

Students at any level (undergraduate, master's, doctoral) who will be returning for the 25-26 academic year are eligible to apply for the award.

Internship Opportunity - Maryland Administrator Pathways (MAP) Program

The Bright Futures Initiative awards students with need-based scholarships ranging from $100-$1,250 to help offset expenses incurred during unpaid internships.

 

Eligibility

• A secured unpaid on-campus and off-campus internship with a non-profit organization or government agency for summer 2025.
• A new internship experience during summer 2025 and completed by the start of the fall 2025 semester.
• Supervised by a professional in the field.
• Registered UMD undergraduate students returning to campus for Fall 2025.  May 2025 graduating seniors are not eligible.
• Preference will be given to those who have not previously received this scholarship.

 

This scholarship is generously funded by the Eisen Family, the University Career Center & The President’s Promise, and individual donors through Maryland Giving Day.

 

Sustainability Unpaid Internship Scholarship

Application Closes: Friday, May 2, 2025

 

The Sustainability Internship Scholarship will help off-set expenses associated with an unpaid internship.  Scholarship awards ranging from $1,000-$1,750 are available to help offset expenses.

Eligibility

• The internship must be related to sustainability or with an organization that aligns with the UN’s organization aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
• A secured summer unpaid internship with a nonprofit or government agency.
• Supervised by a professional in the field.
• All undergraduate class years are welcome to apply. May 2025 graduating seniors are not eligible.
