Research Associate or Assistant Position with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities for Dec 2015 or May 2016 Graduate

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is seeking to hire a Federal Tax Policy Research Associate or Assistant (RA) – title commensurate with experience -- to join its federal budget and tax team. This role is an excellent opportunity for any of students (or recent graduates) who have a strong quantitative background, a desire to improve the lives of low- and moderate-income people, and an interest in shaping federal budget and tax policy.  We will consider applicants graduating in May/June 2016 as well as applicants with earlier availability.

This RA position offers an exceptional foundation for people seeking a career in public policy. Based in Washington D.C., the Center is a non-profitresearch organization with a national reputation for rigorous analysis of budget and tax policies and an ability to influence policy debates. Under the supervision of senior experts, the RA will receive strong training in producing relevant analyses on a range of tax, budget, and low-income policies, and a unique insight into federal policymaking.  The RA will also participate in skill and knowledge development sessions for early-career Center staff.

Former federal fiscal RAs have gone on to a wide range of analysis and policy roles. Some examples include working with the Council of Economic Advisers, the Office of Management and Budget, the National Economic Council in the White House, the Senate Finance Committee, and at non-partisan national and state research organizations.

We are interested in applicants who are highly motivated, pay close attention to detail, and want to work in a fast-paced organization whose mission is to improve the well-being of low- and moderate-income people.

Requirements
  • A bachelor’s or advanced degree (an advanced degree is not required).
  • Very strong quantitative skills and a background in economics, mathematics or statistics, public policy, or a related field.
  • A demonstrated commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • The ability to work on multiple tasks both independently and part of a highly collaborative team, often on a time-sensitive basis.
  • Familiarity with statistical applications is desirable, as is experience analyzing large data sets.
  • Familiarity with federal tax policy issues and concepts is an advantage, but not required.
  • A two-year commitment is expected. We will consider applicants graduating in May/June 2016 as well as applicants with earlier availability.
