Overview of Department
The Government Affairs team oversees AJWS’s “inside the beltway”
strategy to promote a U.S. foreign policy and development agenda that respects
and promotes the human rights of marginalized communities in the developing
world. This five-person team represents AJWS’s work on Capitol Hill, the White
House, the State Department, and the U.S. Agency for International Development
and maintains our relationships with key policymakers on our issues. Our current
Government Affairs work focuses on strengthening the human rights of LGBT
people, ending early/child marriage, promoting community-based economic
development, and protecting the rights of ethnic and national minorities in
countries Burma and the Dominican Republic.
