Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC) Call for Applications

The Defense Civilian Training Corps (DCTC) is seeking students interested in a paid one-year (May 2026 to May 2027) development experience, with a pathway to employment into a career as a civilian at a Department of War organization.

The program is structured as two, 2-week intensive (full-time) development sessions and an 8-week internship at a specified partner organization. The award package for students includes reimbursement for participation in the intensive development sessions, a $10,000 stipend to cover the internship in summer 2026, and a $5,000 completion bonus.

Volunteer for Maryland Day 2026!

 Join the Department of Economics at Maryland Day 2026 on Saturday, April 25th !

Maryland Day is the University’s annual springtime open house and is always a day of
learning, fun, and discovery for the UMD community and our neighbors. We are looking
for students interested in volunteering alongside ECON staff to help lead departmental activities and speak to
members of the public and prospective students about the major.

Volunteers can staff the table in two hour shifts from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the day. Please fill out this Google Form with your contact information and availability to be added to the list. Please note that shifts will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

As the date approaches, you will be emailed with additional information about the event.

Job Opportunity in the LEHD group at CES for Graduating Seniors/Recent Graduates

The LEHD group in the Center for Economic Studies is hiring up to 2 positions. These positions are excellent opportunities for students to work directly with microdata, learn about the creation of cutting-edge government statistics, and potentially prepare for graduate school. This posting will be live from March 20 - April 3.

This role is designed for graduating seniors or recent alumni who are considering a PhD in Economics or a related field. It offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with high-level academic research and large-scale data analysis before entering a doctoral program.

Role Overview:

Position: Pre-Doctoral Research Assistant
Focus: Working directly with administrative data to improve existing data products and create new data products.
Key Responsibilities: Data cleaning and management, performing statistical analysis, and assisting with the preparation of research papers and presentations.
Desired Skills: Proficiency in R, Stata, or Python; strong quantitative background; and a keen interest in empirical research.
