Expert Analysis Group (EAG) Positions at the DOJ Antitrust Division

The Expert Analysis Group in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice is soliciting applications for full-time Statisticians in Washington, DC starting summer 2026. The Economic Analysis Group has nearly 50 Ph.D. economists who provide economic analysis for antitrust cases brought by the Division. The primary focus of our work is applied microeconomics with an emphasis on competitive interactions between firms in specific markets. The Statisticians work closely with staff economists to define relevant product and geographic markets, determine pricing patterns, provide statistical analysis of industry behavior, find trends in large datasets, and prepare materials and visualizations (such as maps, data, charts, and graphs) that may be required for litigation. Duties may also include assisting staff economists working on articles for publication in economic journals.

The Expert Analysis Group is looking for detail-oriented, highly motivated individuals interested in economics. This position will be advertised at the GS-7 and GS-9 grade levels. A bachelor’s degree that included 15 semester hours in Statistics (or in Mathematics and Statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in Statistics) is required, and you must be a U.S. citizen. Relevant experience includes work with spreadsheets, coding, and applied econometrics and statistics. Course work in statistics, econometrics, calculus, data science, and linear algebra is useful. Students graduating by June 2026 preferred.
