Opportunities in the Research and Analysis Center at the Office of Financial Research

The Office of Financial Research (OFR) serves the needs of the public and the Financial Stability Oversight Council in promoting financial stability by monitoring financial institutions and markets, conducting research on financial , risk management, addressing data gaps, improving data standards and promoting best practices in financial risk management.

The Research and Analysis Center within OFR seeks researchers and analysts with training in economics, finance, public policy, business, statistics, computer programming , quantitative methods and data management and analysis. Some positions may be filled under Treasury’s excepted service (Schedule A) hiring authority, Intergovernmental Personnel Act authority, or the OFR Fellows Program. These appointments may be made for a stated term of 1‐4 years.

The OFR environment is a rare blend of academic and applied work. Strong candidates would contribute to both.

Available positions include:

Financial Analyst

Would include individuals with experience and training in analyzing financial markets, transactions, financial institutions institutions and financial products. Experience using financial data to produce high quality written analysis is desired. Masters degree is preferred, but others with exceptional experience will be considered. Financial analysts are ready to apply their expertise for directed and original explorations of financial stability issues in monitoring, policy analysis, and OFR reports.

Research Analyst

Would include individuals with strong quantitative and writing skills and with an interest in financial
analysis. Experience analyzing, processing, and presenting economic, financial, textual, behavioral or time series data is essential. Experience programming (e.g. Matlab or Python) is required for some positions. In addition, experience working with statistical software (e.g. R, Stata or SAS) and large data sets (e.g. SQL, Hadoop, Pig) is a plus.

OFR is recruiting for Research Analysts at multiple experience levels. For candidates finishing or having recently completed bachelors degrees, we have great entry level opportunities in finance and economics which would serve well as preparation for a career in financial services, financial regulation, data science, and academic research. For candidates with 1‐2 years of experience or a relevant masters degree, opportunities exist to develop additional expertise in these fields while contributing to the design and implementation of OFR’s research and monitors.
