This fall internship, beginning in September 2015, is a paid opportunity
for undergraduate students in their junior or senior year, recent college
graduates or graduate students with an interest in gaining experience and
contributing to the work at the world’s leading think tank; and undertaking an
independent research/academic project.
This internship pays an hourly rate of $10.50, and ideally applicants will work
part-time during regular business hours (dependent on the applicant’s school
schedule), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The
internship is based in Washington, DC and will last approximately 10 weeks.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include research related tasks on various metropolitan
initiatives in the areas of advanced economy, innovation & engagement,
human capital, STEM and global cities.
Note that as part of this internship program, interns are required to complete
an independent research/academic project of his or her choice and will make a
presentation at the end of the internship. The project should be scaled to
complete in approximately 40 hours and interns will receive regular feedback
from Metro staff and scholars over the course of the internship
In addition to their primary responsibilities, interns will have the
opportunity to attend internal presentations, professional development
workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings
sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution
Education/Skills/ Experience
Graduate or undergraduate student (who has completed their sophomore year)
working towards a degree in public policy, urban policy, economics,
statistics/mathematics, other social sciences, or related fields. Recent
college graduates are also eligible to apply.
Experience with Excel, Access, ArcGIS, SAS, STATA and/or SQL are strongly
recommended, but not required.
