We’re an independent agency that regulates the interstate transmission of electricity, natural gas and oil.
Our internship program provides students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a federal agency while learning more about the energy industry and gaining exposure to the Commission’s work. Students have the opportunity to attend networking events, visits to regulated hydropower dams, seminars with career advice and tips and enjoy lunch with FERC’s top officials.
This internship position is located in the Office of Enforcement in the Division of Analytics and Surveillance, which serves the public interest by ensuring effective regulations and protecting customers through understanding markets and their regulation, timely identifying and remedying market problems, assuring compliance with Commission rules and regulations, and detecting and crafting remedies to address market manipulation and other non-compliance issues.
At time of application, applicant must submit proof of Fall 2016 enrollment.
These positions are temporary, they may be converted to a full time, career-conditional position. Any conversions to full time or career-conditional status is neither implied nor guaranteed.
Duties
- Analyze and manage large data volumes of data using SAS.
- Research the intracacies of physical energy markets, related financial products, and the nexus between them.
- Analyze energy trading in the context of market rules.
Requirements
- Successfully complete a background investigation.
- Applicants must submit transcripts at time of application.
- Must be enrolled in the Fall 2016 semester.
Qualifications
In addition to the grade specific educational requirements for the Energy Industry Analyst, applicants may also qualify based on specialized experience.
GS-7: Specialized experience is defined as one year of GS-5 level experience using statistical, such as SAS, STATA, SPSS.
