The DC Branch of the American Statistical Association (ASA), aka the Washington Statistical Society (WSS) would like to inform undergraduate and graduate students of activities and opportunities WSS is offering this 2018-2019 academic year:
- 2018-2019 WSS Mentoring Program - This program pairs each aspiring mentee with a participating mentor from the Washington DC metropolitan area. It builds professional relationships and trust between the mentor and mentee. For the mentee, it provides a source for developing professional skills, planning career goals, and networking. For mentors, it is a way of giving back to the statistical community and enhancing communication and leadership skills. This program is intended for mentees just starting out to those in the middle of their careers. To learn more, go to WashStat.Org and fill out our form to participate.
- WSS is sponsoring students to attend the conference in Denver, CO, July 27-August 1, 2019 with 2019 Joint Statistical Meeting Student Travel Awards. For more information, see the July/August/September WSS Newsletter. Applications due 12/31/2018.
- WSS is hosting two social gatherings to which we would like to invite interested students, postdocs, staff, and faculty.
- First, Happy Hour is Tuesday September 25 from 5-6:30 PM at Gordon Biersch, 200 E Middle Ln, Unit A, Rockville, MD 20850, just west of the Red Line Rockville Metro Stop in Rockville Town Square. This is an opportunity to meet potential mentors, mentees, and other WSS/ASA members. RSVP not required.
- Next, the annual Holiday Party is Tuesday, December 4 from 4:30-7:30 PM at Penn Commons, 700 6th St, Washington, DC 20001, just one block from the Gallery Place Metro Station. Please hold the date and continue to monitor the WSS Newsletter for more information as this is a ticketed event.
