Edgeworth Economics, an economic consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. will be hosting their third annual Open House recruiting event this fall for students graduating with their bachelor’s or master’s degrees between now and June 2026.

Volunteer for Maryland Day 2025!


Join the Department of Economics at Maryland Day 2025 on Saturday, April 26th !
Maryland Day is the University’s annual springtime open house and is always a day of
learning, fun, and discovery for the UMD community and our neighbors. We are looking
for students interested in volunteering alongside ECON staff to help lead departmental
activities (like a fun risk aversion game that rewards players with candy. and speak to
members of the public and prospective students about the major.

Volunteers can staff the table in two hour shifts from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the day and will get a free Maryland Day t-shirt for lending a hand. Please fill out this Google Form with your contact information and availability to be added to the list. Please note that shifts will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis.

As the date approaches, you will be emailed with additional information about the event.

The BSOS DSAC Annual Student-Faculty Social will serve as a great opportunity for students and faculty of all majors/departments to network, discuss their academic and research interests, and to overall strengthen the community of BSOS.

ECON Mentoring Program: Receive Career Guidance and Advice from Alumni

Are you looking for career advice from someone who knows what you are going through? Have you heard that it's a good idea to get a mentor but don't know how to make this happen? Then this workshop is for you! Whether you are looking to get a jump on your career or you are feeling woefully behind, a connection with an ECON alum can set you on the right track.

We work with the Economic Leadership Council Affiliates, all dedicated and successful UMD ECON Alumni, to provide mentoring and support to students. This workshop will inform you about the Mentoring Program, prepare you for the application, and introduce you to other ECON majors.

First generation, transfer students, and underrepresented minority are especially encourage to attend, but the workshop and the program are open to all ECON majors.

Federal Reserve's Exploring Careers in Economics on October 15th

 




The Federal Reserve’s Exploring Careers in Economics event will be live on October 15 at 1:00 P.M. ET. The goal of this event is to increase interest in economics, especially among students from a diverse background.

During the event, students will hear from Federal Reserve staff and research assistants. Organized to broaden awareness of careers in economics and to further develop a diverse pool of talent interested in the field, Exploring Careers in Economics will offer students a chance to learn about and discuss opportunities in economics generally, and learn about career paths within the Federal Reserve System.

Persian Flagship Program

 

The Persian Flagship Program is an academic scholarship program designed to get students to professional fluency in this critical language. The program is open to students of all majors and backgrounds, and offers up to $20,000 in scholarships to support study of Persian at the Superior level. Join us on September 10th between 4pm and 6pm to learn about the Flagship Program, meet current students and faculty, and enjoy some pizza!
