UMD Career & Internship Fair- Spring 2024

The annual Career & Internship Fair, hosted by the University Career Center, provides BSOS students and alumni with an opportunity to meet with employers to discuss internship, full-time and part-time employment opportunities. Employers are looking forward to meeting undergraduate and graduate students! Business professional attire is requested.

  • Register for each day of the Fair that you will attend through Handshake.
  • Customize your resume for the Fair and have it reviewed. Upload your customized resume to your Fair registration in Handshake.
  • Review the organizations attending and make a list of the organizations you would like to engage with.

BSOS Seniors: Are you post-grad ready?

Jump Start Your Job & Internship Search

April 18 | 5 pm | TYD 2118, Feller Center | RSVP

Are you looking for a job or internship but do not know where to start? Have you begun your search but you are feeling lost? This session will provide students with steps and resources to take control of their job or internship search. Students will also learn how to manage difficult emotions surrounding their search, such as imposter syndrome, uncertainty, and disappointment.

Drop in, last session will begin at 4:30 pm

Practice articulating your skills in a simulated 20-minute interview.

Whether you have an interview coming up or want to build confidence, this event is for you. Students who have completed a mock interview all agree that practicing is the number one way to increase interviewing confidence and identify ways to articulate skills more effectively.

Law School Recruitment Fair for UMD Students

This in-person event provides a unique opportunity for graduate schools and other law programs to meet face to face with students and alumni considering law school. No registration is needed but you can RSVP on C4T and get a reminder the day before. The University of Maryland's Pre-Law Advising Office within Letters and Sciences is partnering with the University Career Center & The President's Promise to present this Law School Fair. This event is open to University of Maryland, College Park students & alumni.

Explore potential career paths and opportunities through Intern for a Day!


The University Career Center's popular Intern for a Day program connects UMD students with alumni, parents, and employers for in-person job shadowing or virtual informational interviewing experiences to explore potential career fields. After participating in a mandatory orientation and completing an application, University Career Center staff match you with an employer of interest for a half- or full-day job shadowing experience or a virtual informational interview.

What do I need to do to participate?
  1. Complete the online, self-paced, mandatory orientation process between September 26 and the end of the day on October 9. You can find the link to add the mandatory orientation to your ELMS profile at go.umd.edu/ifad, starting on September 26.
  2. Review the list of hosts that are participating to see who you could shadow in-person or host a virtual informational interview with.
  3. If you complete the mandatory orientation on ELMS by the end of the day on October 9, you will receive the Intern for a Day Fall 2022 application by the end of the day on October 10 from the IFAD email address (ifad@umd.edu).
  4. Complete the brief application by the end of the day on October 16.

FBI Honors Summer 2023 Internship Program

Ten-week paid internship with the FBI. The 2023 Summer Honors Internship Program seeks undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior), graduate, or post-doctorate student. Students are not eligible if they will graduate before the program start date; exceptions are permitted to students continuing their education in the semester immediately following. Student Program Facts

1. FBI Honors Internship Program Information SessionAug 31, 2022 | 5 - 6 pm

This session will teach students all they need to know about the FBI, its mission, information on upcoming job/internship opportunities, and how to apply. Additionally, a recruiter from the FBI will be discussing what they look for from prospective candidates application submissions and how you can ensure that your application is competitive. 2. FBI Mock Interviews, Sept. 1, 2022 | 20 minute slots 4-6 pm

The Federal Bureau of Investigation will be at the UMD University Career Center conducting mock interviews on Thursday September 1st from 4-6pm. This is a great opportunity for students interested in jobs/internships with the FBI to sharpen their interview skills ahead of the Bureaus upcoming hiring season. Spots are limited so register for a 20 minute slot today through Careers4Terps! Deadline to register is Aug. 30, 2022.

Career Exploration through Self Assessment (TODAY - 3/1/22)

Are you struggling to identify your skills? Wondering how you can locate careers that relate to your interests? In this session, we will use FOCUS2, a self-assessment tool offered by the University Career Center, to identify your natural strengths.

Attend this session to:
  • Review your FOCUS2 results and examine how your results relate to career path options.
  • Identify your key interests and strengths.
  • Develop a plan to explore/learn more about career paths of interest.
BEFORE THE SESSION: Complete the Work Interest Assessment, Personality Assessment, and Values Assessment in FOCUS2 to make the most out of this small group workshop.

The Joel & Kim Feller Center for BSOS Academic Advising & Career Planning is pleased to host the BSOS Alumni Career Chat series. The Chats connect industry specific alumni/employers with BSOS majors over Zoom.

Noah Murell, ECON ‘11 & ‘17 | Data Science Advisor, Fannie Mae

Noah is currently an Advisor of Data Science in the Single Family Analytics division at Fannie Mae. He is the technical team lead for the Servicing Analytics function of SFA. In his role, he serves as the project initiatives such as: servicer performance modeling, analytics for new workout products, and rep and warrant exposure modeling. He is also a co-lead for the Single Family Analytics Associate Program, which hires, onboards, and trains 20-30 data science associates each year  

Our alumni want to hear from our students!  This looks to be an engaging session, and we encourage students to ask questions throughout. Students usually ask questions about their background, classes that were helpful, application tips, etc. Check out these sample questions and bring some to the chat! Trying to write your experiences on your resume but not sure where to start? Register for the "Transferable Skills" Sesh!

Are you applying for internships or entry-level positions but feel like you don't have much work experience? Are you having trouble articulating your skills and job responsibilities on your resume?

When faced with internship and job postings, common qualifications listed include:
  • Communication
  • Problem-solving
  • Teamwork
  • Attention to detail
  • Leadership
These "transferable skills" are all the skills that you take with you from one job to another and are valued by employers. However, it can be challenging to identify your own or articulate those skills on your resume.

During the Feller Center for Advising and Career Planning's "Transferable Skills" installment of the BSOS Career Skills Sesh Series, you'll learn:
  • How transferable skills are viewed by employers
  • How to identify your own
  • Receive a list of common transferable skills with concrete examples to help you articulate your own
At the end of this interactive session, you will have a better understanding of how to highlight your transferable skills to potential employers as you search for your next position.

The event will take place on March 1st from 12 - 1 PM in Tydings 2118.

Get a Jumpstart on Career Planning and Attend a Skills Sesh!

The Feller Center for Advising & Career Planning is excited to announced our "Career Skills Sesh" Series** this Spring. This series is designed to give students a jumpstart on basic career development topics and equip them with practical skills!

Our first sesh will take place in-person from 12 - 1 PM on February 15th and will cover Resumes.

  • Gain strategies and guidance on how to effectively format and tailor your resume

Need a Space for an Interview? Reserve the Feller Center's Interview Booth!

The Feller Center for Advising & Career Planning in BSOS is happy to offer students the ability to book a private booth for virtual or phone interviews. The interview booth is equipped with semi-soundproof glass, outlets to power your laptop, and a desk suitable for all laptop sizes.

The booth may be reserved Monday through Friday between 9 am - 4 pm. All interviews must conclude by 4:30 p.m. ET. Room reservation blocks have a maximum limit of 90 minutes each.

BSOS majors may reserve the booth for the following reasons:
Virtual interview
Informational interview
To complete timed interview tasks for an application
