Compete in the 2012 Wall St. Training Case Competition

This year's competition will again focus on financial modeling & valuation and industry & economic analysis. Teams will create dynamic financial models, industry research reports, valuation summaries, and team presentations.

 Last year's final round event saw over 100 financial services professionals attend. This year, the final round event has been expanded to a full-day industry conference at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Teams that advance to the final round will present their findings to a panel of industry judges, with the opportunity to network with both professionals and other students. Confirmed speakers at the conference include Peter Cuneo, the former CEO of Marvel Entertainment; Matt Kenagy, Head of Global Gaming Strategy at Las Vegas Sands, and many other senior industry participants.

Research Associate – Health Policy
 
Social & Scientific Systems (SSS) is seeking a Research Associate to provide support for all stages of health policy research projects, including contributing to research design, compilation of data and data analysis, development of data collection instruments and interview guides, and dissemination within SSS’ Center for Health Research and Policy. The Research Associate gathers topical research information as directed, performs literature searches, synthesizes published research, data and statistics, and prepares tabular and graphical presentations of data. Other activities include using Excel or SAS to analyze health care data, writing sections of reports and contributing to proposal development, and conducting telephone interviews with health care providers or administrators. Works on a variety of projects for both federal and non-federal clients, trade associations, states, and foundations. Performs additional duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in economics, related social science, or public health. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong quantitative skills. Experience with SAS a plus (training can be provided).

U.S. Treasury - Junior Analyst

POSITION TYPE: Entry Level (Full-Time)

The Markets Room is recruiting a Junior Analyst at the GS7/GS9 level. The Markets Room is a large and growing office in Treasury that analyzes global financial markets for the Secretary of the Treasury, Under Secretaries, Assistant Secretaries and other senior staff in the Domestic Finance and International Affairs wings of the U.S. Treasury. The Markets Room also prepares critical markets research and analysis for the White House.

Office mandate:
• Assess market trends and vulnerabilities, with a particular focus on Treasuries and other sovereign debt, foreign exchange, credit, structured finance, and emerging markets;
• Provide policy-determining markets advice to senior staff;
• Evaluate the impact of policies on financial markets;
• Formulate a unified view within Treasury on global financial market conditions;
• Interact with market participants in major financial centers, as well as with the Federal Reserve and other agencies.

The Junior Analyst will report to the Director of the Markets Room and will be expected to perform a range of functions, including a wide variety of analytical and administrative support tasks. Analytical duties may include: assisting senior staff with monitoring developments in international and domestic financial markets, generating standardized daily reports detailing current market developments and price action, and preparing weekly and ad hoc analyses on financial market trends and price movements. Eventually, it is expected that the candidate would develop a focus area with respect to an asset class, geographic region, and / or policy area.

Above all, candidates should have the flexibility and teamwork skills necessary to work in a fast-paced "trading floor" environment. Excellent organization skills are a must. The candidate should also possess strong writing skills and be comfortable with Microsoft Office (Excel, in particular). Prior knowledge and use of Bloomberg would be an advantage, but is not necessary. Prior experience with website management is also not required, but the candidate should be willing to learn.

Center for Advanced Language Looking for Paid Research Participants for Several Studies

Arabic students: Make $25, Participate in Research

The University of Maryland Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL) is interested in studying how learners of Arabic perceive speech sounds in Arabic. We are looking for college students who are currently taking or have recently completed Arabic courses at the beginning or intermediate level to participate in a study. Participants should be enrolled or have recently completed at least one year of Arabic, be at least 18 years of age, not be native or heritage speakers of Arabic, and not have a known history of speech language pathology or hearing loss.

They will participate in 1 session lasting on average 1.5 hours. The experiment will involve filling out a language history questionnaire and transcription of a series of Arabic words and non-words that will be played for participants. Are you a native speaker of Arabic? Or Are you a native English speaker who has studied Arabic?

Researchers at the University of Maryland are looking for volunteers to participate in a language study. The study compares how first and second language learners of Arabic understand Arabic words.

The study takes no more than 1.5 hours in total. Participants will listen to spoken Arabic words, then see strings of Arabic letters on a laptop screen, and decide whether each string is a real word in Arabic. Participants will also complete a fill-in-the-blank quiz, and answer a questionnaire about their language-learning experiences. Research participants must be native speakers of Arabic or English, be at least 18 years of age, and have good reading and listening skills in Arabic.
