Communications & Marketing Internship

Location: United States Fashion Industry Association, 1140 Connecticut Ave. NW, Suite 950, Washington, D.C. (Dupont Circle/Farragut Square)
 
Date: Spring 2014 – January to May/June 
 
Number of Hours: 10-20 hours/week – flexible part-time schedule 
 
Description: The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) seeks an intern for the Spring 2014 semester to assist with the association’s communications, marketing, and administrative activities. The intern’s responsibilities may include: 
  • Compiling research on trade policy and trade compliance topics (including rules of origin, consumer product safety, commercial documentation requirements, and international labor issues) for USFIA communications;
  • Preparing communications for review and distribution through web-based bulk email program;
  • Formatting and posting content to USFIA website (using web-based content management system) and social media accounts, including Facebook, Flickr, LinkedIn, and Twitter;
  • Performing administrative tasks, including mailings, photocopying, database management, and answering telephones; and,
  • Assisting with other communications, marketing, event planning, and administrative tasks as needed.
An especially self-motivated intern may also have the opportunity to attend congressional hearings and other Washington meetings and events and provide comprehensive recaps for USFIA members with intern’s byline.
 
Requirements:
  • Applicants should be detail-oriented and demonstrate superior writing, research, analytical, and communications skills, as well as an interest in the business/trade policy side of the fashion industry, trade liberalization, and/or international affairs.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, HTML, content management, and social media preferred.
  • English, journalism, communications, political science, and/or international relations majors preferred, but not required.
  • Applicants should be able to receive course credit for the internship; no other compensation will be provided at this time.
