MCRMC - Internship

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT – UNPAID INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE

The Military Compensation and Retirement Modernization Commission (the "Commission") seeks interns for various departments within the Commission Staff.

Established by the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, as amended by the FY 2014 National Defense Authorization Act, the Commission is reviewing military compensation and retirement programs to ensure the long-term health of the All-Volunteer Force, provide for a high quality-of-life for the members of the Uniformed Forces and their families, and modernize the compensation and retirement programs to achieve fiscal sustainability. After reviewing existing statutes, regulations and policies, the Commission will make recommendations to the President and Congress in 2015.

A cadre of interns will assist the Commission Staff with their research and review of existing statutes, regulations and policies of affected federal agencies as required by statute. In some cases, interns may assist with quantitative analysis.

The Commission Staff seeks interns who have an ability to:

• follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format,
• analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures to recommend effective solutions,
• learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work; and
• learn how to gather and analyze basic facts, information and data, and draw conclusions.

Preference will be given to applicants seeking or who have a degree in the areas of Political Science, Economics, the Law, Public or Health Administration, or similar degree fields.

Applicants who are veterans or have an affiliation with the military, prior legislative experience, or an interest in military personnel matters are strongly encouraged to apply.

Internships are unpaid. However, interns with superior performance may compete for paid internships beginning in the summer.

Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter to the Commission Staff via email to resume@mcrmc.gov. Resumes will be accepted on a rolling basis through December 31, 2014.
