Research Analyst with the IMF

The Data and Information Systems Section (DISS) of the World Economic Studies division of the IMF’s Research Department is responsible for providing support in producing two main outputs, the World Economic Outlook (WEO) publication and the IMF’s Common Surveillance Databases (CSD). The research assistants and officers of DISS contribute to both outputs in varying degrees.

Some Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Gather and process economic and financial data and apply statistical and econometric techniques in data analyses needed for the research projects prepared in the Research Department. 
  • Design and write complex computer programs to manipulate, assemble, transform, and analyze cross-section, time-series, and panel databases, bearing responsibility for accuracy of both data and programs, and occasionally interpret empirical results. These projects, which cover a wide range of economic subjects and IMF policy issues, include work mainly for the WEO but also for the databases supporting other surveillance exercises. 
  • Produce statistical tables and charts as needed.
  • Coordinate activities with cross-country exercise teams in other departments that provide inputs for the CSD. 
  • Apply statistical and econometric techniques in data analyses to strengthen IMF surveillance.
