USDA Foreign Agricultural Service Diversity Fellowship Program

The Foreign Agricultural Service Diversity Fellowship Program is administered by Howard University seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people who represent ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, and geographic diversity and has an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).

The program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in USDA and those with financial need. The FDFP program seeks to ensure that the Foreign Service reflects the face of America to foreign audiences and provides a source of trained women and men who are dedicated to pursuing Foreign Service careers with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service.

For the inaugural 2023 FDFP cohort, we will recruit four fellows and provide up to $42,000 annually for a two-year period for tuition, room, board, books, and mandatory fees for completing two-year master’s degrees in Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics at U.S. institutions around the country.

FDFP fellows will also receive two summer internships, mentoring from a foreign service officer, and professional development training throughout the program before starting their career with USDA Foreign Agricultural Service upon completing programmatic and USDA FAS requirements.

The FAS Diversity Fellowship Program is truly a unique and rewarding opportunity for those interested in careers with USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, whose work links U.S. agriculture to the world to enhance export opportunities and global food security. We will host our first Virtual FDFP General Presentation on April 22, 2022, at 3 PM EST; if you or others interested in your network are available and would like to learn more, we invite you to please join and register here (Registration Link: https://howard.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZModOqtrTMtH9ath1fKYtG8vYLTxISfVA82).
