U.S. Treasury - Junior Analyst

U.S. Treasury--Markets Room, Washington, District of Columbia

POSITION TYPE: Entry Level (Full-Time)

The Markets Room is recruiting a Junior Analyst at the GS7/GS9 level. The Markets Room is a large and growing office in Treasury that analyzes global financial markets for the Secretary of the Treasury, Under Secretaries, Assistant Secretaries and other senior staff in the Domestic Finance and International Affairs wings of the U.S. Treasury. The Markets Room also prepares critical markets research and analysis for the White House.

Office mandate:
• Assess market trends and vulnerabilities, with a particular focus on Treasuries and other sovereign debt, foreign exchange, credit, structured finance, and emerging markets;
• Provide policy-determining markets advice to senior staff;
• Evaluate the impact of policies on financial markets;
• Formulate a unified view within Treasury on global financial market conditions;
• Interact with market participants in major financial centers, as well as with the Federal Reserve and other agencies.

The Junior Analyst will report to the Director of the Markets Room and will be expected to perform a range of functions, including a wide variety of analytical and administrative support tasks. Analytical duties may include: assisting senior staff with monitoring developments in international and domestic financial markets, generating standardized daily reports detailing current market developments and price action, and preparing weekly and ad hoc analyses on financial market trends and price movements. Eventually, it is expected that the candidate would develop a focus area with respect to an asset class, geographic region, and / or policy area.

Above all, candidates should have the flexibility and teamwork skills necessary to work in a fast-paced "trading floor" environment. Excellent organization skills are a must. The candidate should also possess strong writing skills and be comfortable with Microsoft Office (Excel, in particular). Prior knowledge and use of Bloomberg would be an advantage, but is not necessary. Prior experience with website management is also not required, but the candidate should be willing to learn.
