POSITION SUMMARY
The research assistant position provides individuals with the opportunity to work closely with experts in economics and public policy and to develop the fundamental skills needed to succeed in these fields. In particular, research assistants are responsible for the following tasks:
  • Drafting analytical notes, memos, and reports on current economic and public policy issues.
  • Performing quantitative analysis to identify emerging economic and financial trends.
  • Conducting background research and drafting literature reviews for analytical studies.
  • Collecting and organizing data for surveys and case studies.
  • Preparing charts, data tables, and presentations.
A successful individual will be able to work simultaneously and independently in multiple areas of research, quickly learning new topics, methods, and statistical software packages, as needed. QUALIFICATIONS & SELECTION CRITERIA
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy, or related field.
  • Strong interest in economics and the application of economic tools to public policy issues.
  • Strong interest in writing and an ability to draft analyses with little supervision.
  • Proven quantitative skills, including statistical and econometric analysis.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Familiarity with statistical software (Stata and R Studio), geospatial analysis software (ArcGIS), and data visualization software packages (Tableau).
  • Capacity to simultaneously work on a variety of issues and engage with multiple projects.
  • Ability to independently adjust to changing priorities and meet objectives within agreed upon deadlines.
  • Exceptional work ethic and good sense of humor.
Current areas of interest to our clients include: macroeconomics and global economic risks, energy policy, environmental policy, regulatory policy, international finance, public health, hazard mitigation, and emergency management.
