Join the University Career Center & The President’s Promise on a Career Shuttle to Facebook DC!

This trip is open to sophomores, juniors and graduate students of any major, provided you have a strong academic background and interest in government affairs, public policy, law or strategic communications. To be eligible for a summer externship with Facebook DC, you must be returning to school in Fall 2014 (May 2014 graduates and alumni are not eligible unless they plan to pursue further education starting next fall). ADDITIONAL NOTE: This career shuttle and site focuses on government affairs, NOT social media or computer science-related opportunities.

Facebook DC is currently recruiting for its summer externship program (a paid, full-time opportunity during Summer 2014). Facebook DC helps to inform users, the media, partners, employees and other stakeholders about Facebook’s products and business. Working with policymakers at the international federal, and state levels, the team handles legislative and regulatory matters, participates in domestic and international policy discussions and leads the company’s interactions with consumer and other non-governmental organizations.

Space is limited—please RSVP today! Once the bus is full, you will be added to our waiting list and notified if a spot opens up. Due to the limited space and the expected high demand for this trip, we will be enforcing our "no show" policy. Please plan to meet in the lobby of the University Career Center & The President’s Promise (3100 Hornbake Library, South Wing) at 8:30 am. We will depart promptly by bus at 8:45 am and return to campus by 1 pm. You may want to bring a snack. During our visit, we will take a tour of Facebook DC and hear more about their externship program. There may also be the chance to meet some high-level members of the office as their schedules allow.

Apply for the BSOS Peer Mentor Program

The Peer Mentor Program is a component of the student services offered by the BSOS Advising Center. The primary role of Peer Mentors is to teach the BSOS Graduation Planning workshops each semester and conduct various presentations in BSOS UNIV100 sections. Through the services they provide to fellow students, Peer Mentors gain leadership,presentation, and public speaking skills. In preparation for their required tasks, all Peer Mentors are expected to attend weekly class sessions and serve for at least two semesters. Students will earn 1 academic credit after successful completion of each semester.

To be eligible for BSOS Peer Mentors, the following criteria must be met:

• Primary major must be in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences

• At least a 2.5 GPA within major
• Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5+ (Required Submission of Unofficial Transcript)
• Must be in good judicial/academic standing

UMD Master's in Applied Economics - Spring Deadline Extended

The deadline to apply for the UMD Masters in Applied Economics Spring 2014 cohort has been extended to January 1st. 

This program is ideal for our undergraduates who are looking to gain applied quantitative analysis and econometric modeling skills. Our program is particularly relevant for those of you interested in policy analyst positions. This program can be completed in as few as 15 months, and classes are held in the evening at our DC location: 1400 16th Street NW, near Dupont Circle.

Our courses are taught by an extremely talented group of professional economists, many of whom are currently employed by the US government in departments as diverse as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Treasury, and the USDA. As a student in our program, you will have the chance to learn directly from professionals in the field, who know exactly what it takes to succeed as an economist. The program is continuously growing, and we are always adding new events, opportunities, and courses.
