Ag Discovery 2013 Mentors

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in joint with the USDA/APHIS holds a program every summer known as Ag Discovery. This program is designed to give students a unique education of agriculture and natural resources while providing them with a campus experience. We are currently looking for current University of Maryland students to serve as Ag Discovery Mentors for the program.

Mentors are students who live with Ag Discovery participants during the 3 week program (July 7th – 26th). They will receive room and board, a stipend, and are included on any field trips the participants take. Last year, such field trips included, DuPont Labs, Brookside Gardens, National Zoo, Smithsonian Natural History Museum, Capitol Hill, and USDA/APHIS research facilities.

Students who are interested in making connections, promoting the University and are able to work with kids (ages 14-17) are encouraged to apply. Government and Policy, Economics and Public Health majors may be particularly interested in the position.

Interested? The Office of Academic Programs will start conducting “interviews” for students interested in the position! Contact Alyse Carter, acarter7@umd.edu, to learn more and to set up a meeting with Drs. Evelyn Cooper and Leon Slaughter!
