Research Positions at EPA National Center for Environmental Economic

A postgraduate or current student internship project is available at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE).  This program is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Research Participation/Internship Program for the U.S. EPA.  Deadline for initial application is Friday, April 25, 2014.

NCEE is EPA's center of expertise for cutting-edge research and analysis in environmental economics (www.epa.gov/economics) and supporting science. 

The participant will join a group of NCEE staff economists and scientists to support research and related activities, including conducting thorough literature searches and providing scientific input to be used by staff in peer reviewed publications, research reports, working papers, and presentations.  The participant could be involved in the following activities related to environmental economics research:

·         collection, organization and verification of data using standard analytical techniques;
·         review of analyses of the benefits and costs of environmental regulations;
·         assistance in analyses and research efforts on benefit-cost research and techniques, economic impact models and measures, and market incentive mechanisms;
·         assistance in the production of new studies, coordinated with other NCEE staff and EPA program offices.  

This research training opportunity will provide an excellent professional development opportunity. The candidate will have access to a team of experts collaborating in various areas of environmental economics and risk assessment science on high priority issues of critical importance to EPA’s mission.

Qualifications:

Applicants should be enrolled in or have recently completed (within five years) an undergraduate degree program in economics or a related field.  This may include natural or physical science fields that provide information used in economic analysis.  Applicants must have high academic standing and an interest in applied environmental economics research.  

The appointment is for up to one year (with possible renewal) and is subject to availability of funds.  The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.  Coverage under a medical insurance plan is both required and the responsibility of the applicant. The participant does not become an EPA employee.

Position can be full-time or part-time as schedule allows.  U.S. citizenship required.  The program is open to all qualified individuals without regard to race, sex, religion, color, age, physical or mental disability, national origin, or status as a Vietnam era or disabled veteran.
