These positions are located throughout the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) is the principle fact-finding agency for the Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics. The BLS is an independent national statistical agency that collects, processes, analyzes, and disseminates essential statistical data to the American public, the U. S. Congress, other Federal agencies, State and local governments, business and labor. The BLS serves as a statistical resource to the DOL.
 
The incumbents receive assignments of a developmental nature, which are designed to prepare them for higher-level work as an Economist. Incumbents receive specific assignments in a variety of directly or indirectly collected BLS surveys. Typically, assignments will be designed to develop basic competencies in the collection, reporting and evaluation of data.

  • · The full performance level for this position is the GS-12.
  • · Promotion Potential: There is no obligation to provide future promotions to you if you are selected. Future promotions are dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and supervisory approval.
  • · Appointee must be a U.S. citizen in order to be eligible for conversion to a permanent position in the competitive service upon completion of the recent graduate appointment. Appointee must sign a DOL Pathways Recent Graduate Program Participant Agreement.
