Participate in the USAEE's Tulsa Case Competition

United States Association for Energy Economics (USAEE) is very excited to invite you to register a team for the annual USAEE Case Competition. This event is an excellent opportunity for you to work on a realistic energy economics problem, present your solution to a panel of industry experts, and win cash prizes.

By participating in the USAEE Case Competition, students can demonstrate their skills and ideas for potential employers and can win monetary prizes while contributing to solutions for challenging current energy economics issues. The prizes for the three teams invited to present at the Tulsa, OK, conference are $2,500 for the first place team, $2,000 for second place, and $1,500 for third. In addition, all conference fees for the October 23-26, 2016 USAEE/IAEE North American Conference will be waived for up to two members of each invited team.

The case competition problem will feature a realistic and complex energy issue, and require teams to have knowledge and skills in economics, engineering, and policy analysis. This year's problem will involve oil company decision-making in the context of shifting production and consumption patterns.

The student teams will act as consultants and are given three weeks (April 1 - 21) to work on their solution, which is then submitted as a paper detailing their analysis and conclusions. The three teams with the best solutions will be invited to present their results at a special session during the the October 23-26, 2016 USAEE/IAEE North American Conference.

Registration for the USAEE Case Competition is open until March 31. The case competition problem packet will be emailed to registered teams on April 1, and a written solution is due by April 21. The top three teams will be informed by June 30.

To participate in the USAEE Case Competition, you must be a member of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) (note: USAEE membership automatically grants IAEE membership) and be a student or recent graduate at a North American College or University. Teams must be between 2 and 5 students, and any combination of students is permitted (mixed majors, mixed undergrad/grad, mixed universities).
