The Audit (Analyst) Intern will work as part of a multidisciplinary team conducting performance audits of Amtrak programs and operations in a dynamic office environment. These audits include assessments of the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of the Amtrak programs and operations; adequacy of internal controls; and compliance with laws, regulations, policies, contracts and/or grants. The Intern supports a team involved in audits of medium to high complexity.
Essential Functions:
- Attending, participating in, and documenting the results of meetings/interviews of Amtrak officials
- Collecting and analyzing relevant data and information, such as researching and documenting company policies/procedures and conducting quantitative analyses, to identify any possible areas for improvement within the company
- Learning to develop workpapers that meet OIG standards
- Communicating relevant and accurate information, clearly and concisely, during formal or informal meetings, and actively engaging in them
- Collaborating with others to accomplish goals and developing working relationships, when appropriate, with internal and external parties
- Keeping OIG management (i.e. Audit Manager or Senior Director) informed of progress, potential audit findings, and issues that may affect timely completion of assignments
- Using various enterprise tools and technology to prepare and share documents
- Providing additional support such as arranging meetings, taking notes, and responding to routine inquiries
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Legally eligible to work in the US. Permanent Resident or US Citizen.
- Current full or part-time Junior or Senior Undergraduate or Graduate student working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration or Public Policy, Journalism, or a related field.
- Applicants must have a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (“B” or better) as recorded on their official transcript
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Clear and concise oral and written communications skills
- Ability to work independently as well as interactively in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to multi-task with attention to detail
