Summer Internships with the American Enterprise Institute ($1,000 a Month Scholarship Available)

Vincent Smith is a visiting scholar and director of AEI’s Agriculture Policy Studies program and a professor of agricultural economics at Montana State University.

The intern will work on projects with Smith involving the industrial history and relevant policy effects in the agriculture and maritime sectors. Projects will primarily deal with the effects of crop insurance and other subsidy programs on production decisions made by farms and the impacts of artificial market power on US domestic and foreign shipping markets. They also will involve analyzing programs such as in-kind benefit programs and research and development initiatives. These projects are truly unique to AEI. They are high-quality academic research projects that will be published in peer-reviewed journals, but they also are relevant to public policy.

This position will require an interest in economics or history. The skills required for this work include familiarity with Microsoft Excel, knowledge of intermediate econometrics and statistics, interest in high-quality research and technical writing, and willingness to learn ArcGIS, Stata, and R. Familiarity with R, Stata, and ArcGIS is preferred but not strictly required.

AEI’s summer 2021 internship program will be conducted remotely– interns will need access to a personal computer and a stable internet connection. There will be two start dates for the summer program: June 1 and June 7. The program will run for a minimum of 10 weeks, although most interns’ end dates fall around late August.

Intern Scholarship Program
In the summer of 2021, AEI will offer up to six intern candidates a $1,000 monthly living stipend as part of a need-based scholarship program. Our hope is to allow students who would not be able to do so without financial assistance to reap the academic, professional, and personal benefits of interning at AEI. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until May 7. To apply for the scholarship, follow the application link below.
