Internship Opportunities with DHS/ Transportation Security Administration

These internships are located within the Economic Analysis Branch (EAB) in the Policy, Planning, and Engagement (PPE) office. This is an unpaid internship opportunity designed to provide the intern with valuable experience working in the public sector with experience federal staff. Overview of PPE is below:

Policy, Plans, and Engagement (PPE) is tasked with making the Nation's transportation system more secure and resilient. PPE supports TSA's mission by:
  • Administering the formulation and delivery of transportation security policies
  • Conducting and overseeing engagement and outreach with transportation industry partners
  • Overseeing the issuance of regulations, economic evaluations, and rulemaking
  • Developing national transportation security plans
  • Economic Analysis Branch (EAB) - Conducts economic analysis on transportation security policies and provides quantitative research and analysis to inform risk-based decision making.
The duties of the internship position would include but are not limited to:
  • Assisting regulatory economists,
  • Researching transportation industry trends,
  • Gathering industry and Government data,
  • Conducting policy analyses,
  • Benefit-cost models, etc.
Learning Objectives:

To perform meaningful and developmental work in the Economic Analysis Branch working alongside senior economists and other TSA professionals. All assigned work will be evaluated by a senior economist for clarity and accuracy

Positions are located at TSA Headquarters in Springfield, VA – Currently all internships are virtual.

The Basic eligibility requirements for internship include:
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Submission of official transcript or other official documentation verifying current student enrollment
  • Completion and submission of internship forms
  • Completion and successful adjudication of Personnel Security investigation
  • Proof of Covid Vaccination
  • This is an unpaid internship so students are encouraged to receive academic credit (although not required)
