Description
The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Policy Analysis is seeking undergraduate and graduate student interns for the Summer 2022 term. An internship with the Office of Policy Analysis provides students with a unique opportunity to work directly on priority natural resource policy and management issues, while gaining valuable federal government work experience and access to a network of Department of the Interior economists and policy analysts.
The Office of Policy Analysis assists in analyzing and evaluating Departmental programs; developing new programs and advising major program changes; producing major studies of policies and programs; conducting economic analysis of natural and environmental resources issues; and coordinating crosscutting policies, programs, and other initiatives as needed. Responsibilities
At any given time, the Office of Policy Analysis oversees and participates in multiple ongoing analytic efforts. These include short-, medium-, and long-term projects. The projects encompass the Department's entire portfolio. Some of the topics the Office anticipates working on in 2022 include:- Economic impact analysis of DOI programs and activities
- Economic analysis of energy-related activities on federal lands
- Indian affairs
- Insular affairs
- Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration
- Regulatory affairs
- Wildland fire
- Funding for infrastructure projects around the nation
- Climate-change issues
- Equity issues
- Gathering and analyzing data
- Researching high priority policy topics
- Assisting Office of Policy Analysis with writing reports and delivering presentations to Departmental leadership
Qualifications
All applicants should be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in economics, environmental studies/science, political science, government, or other relevant fields. In addition, applicants should possess research, writing, and analytical capabilities and effective communication skills. Interns will be required to pass a background check.
