UMD’s Federal, Global, and Maryland Fellows Internship Programs – Submit Admissions forms now!

Are you interested in gaining professional experience through Federal agencies, international organizations, foreign embassies, state and local government, non-profits, NGOs, think tanks, and more? Our one-year program combines a fall seminar, taught by expert practitioners with a spring internship (both for college credit), and includes professional development workshops and one-on-one advising throughout the year. This is a unique active-learning opportunity to integrate your academics with real world experience and explore future goals. Spring Internship 3-9 credits available through our program (including Scholarship in Practice credit); you can also obtain internship credit through your major to complete this Fellows requirement.
Internships/Program Partnerships at a myriad of sites, including Department of Homeland Security, Department of State, Maryland General Assembly, Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, World Resources Institute, NASA, NIST, Department of Defense, START, Foreign Embassies, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), White House, Congressional offices and committees, Partnership for Public Service, and many many more!

Year round activities include visits with DC-area organizations, professional development workshops, personalized one-on-one coaching, resume and cover letter review, interview preparation, and much more!

Exciting News - Launching Maryland Fellows!
The University of Maryland is delighted to launch the Maryland Fellows Program in fall 2023. The aim is to prepare talented and diverse undergraduates to excel at their spring internships and pursue careers in public service, especially at the state and local levels. The centerpiece of the program is the Maryland General Assembly’s Legislative internships. Maryland Fellows is launching as a collaboration between the Federal and Global Fellows Programs, the English Department's existing Maryland General Assembly Writing internship, and the Department of Government and Politics.
