Stanford's Undergraduate Economics Journal Accepting Submissions

Greetings from the Stanford Economic Review, Stanford’s only undergraduate economics publication!

For almost a decade, we have published incredible empirical research papers from undergraduate students across the globe, serving as a medium to amplify the voices of some of the world’s brightest minds. Since 2021, our publication has also been accepting qualitative pieces about modern economic issues for the commentary section of our website.

We have officially started accepting submissions for the Winter 2023-2024 issue of our research journal - the application deadline is December 15, 2023. As for commentary submissions, we will review these pieces on a rolling basis throughout the year, so feel free to submit at any time! Commentaries may take the form of either “short-form” (500-1000 words) or “long-form” (1800-7500 words) articles. Please see the “Submit” section of our website (https://stanfordeconreview.com/) for more details about the submission requirements, and please reach out to us at stanfordeconreview@gmail.com if you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or concerns. We look forward to reviewing your work!

Best,

Karthick Arunachalam and Eric Gao

Research Assistants Positions with the Federal Reserve System

The Board of Governors and the 12 Federal Reserve Banks throughout the country are currently recruiting upcoming graduates to fill multiple Research Assistant positions that will become available in spring and summer 2024.The positions are full-time, salaried, and offer full benefits, including tuition assistance.

The Federal Reserve System is committed to attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse workforce. We recognize the benefit derived from different perspectives and experiences and we look carefully at candidates’ applications to identify individuals whose perspectives could benefit our work. As such, we especially encourage submissions from individuals of groups traditionally less represented in economics.

Research Assistants work closely with economists at the top of their fields on a variety of research questions and real-world policy issues while developing a toolkit beneficial for graduate study and future career paths. Research Assistants typically work for two to three years, before going on to competitive graduate programs or pursuing other careers.

We seek individuals with strong academic records and excellent written and oral communication skills. Competitive candidates should have intermediate coursework in economics and a strong foundation in mathematics and statistics. We also look for prior research experience, demonstrated interest in economics, programming experience, and familiarity with statistical programming packages, such as STATA, MATLAB, and R. Most positions require US citizenship, but some Reserve Banks consider non-U.S. citizen candidates.

Interested students will find general information about our Research Assistant program at www.fedeconjobs.org. This site also directs candidates to specific information and application instructions for each of the Federal Reserve Banks and the Board. Candidates must submit separate applications to each location of interest.

Immediate RA opening at the Richmond Fed

We have an immediate opening for a research assistant (RA) position in the Richmond Fed research department. This is a full time, two-year position for candidates who recently completed their undergrad degree; it should be particularly interesting to someone considering an academic career in economics. Start date is during Fall 2023. Please share with students who may be a good fit.

Candidates can apply here: Federal Reserve System Careers (myworkdayjobs.com)

Applications considered on a rolling basis, but interested candidates encouraged to apply before September 1st.
We will consider applicants graduating in December, for a start date of January 2024, but will give priority to candidates who are able to start in the Fall of 2023.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens or Green Card holders, since sponsorship or practical training extensions are not available for this position

We are very interested in getting the information about these opportunities to people traditionally underrepresented in the economics profession. I thank you in advance for your help with sharing the information with those students.
We are a welcoming department and we are committed to mentor our RAs and interns in their learning and in their next steps. About 50% of our RAs and interns go on to a PhD in economics, and they get placed in solid, and sometimes top, programs (in the last 3 years: Chicago, Stanford, Northwestern).
