The Expanding Diversity in Economics Summer Institute (EDE) is accepting applications for its 2024 program now through Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. EDE is a University of Chicago program hosted by the Becker Friedman Institute for Economics (BFI) and the Hutchins Center on Fiscal and Monetary Policy at Brookings, designed to identify and support talented undergraduate students from a broad range of backgrounds interested in the study of economics.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural week of programming in Washington, DC, EDE will again send students to study current issues in fiscal and monetary policies and the people and institutions who make them. We are excited to have the DC week hosted once more by the Hutchins Center, whose mission is to improve the quality and efficacy of fiscal and monetary policies and the public’s understanding of them.

Who Should Apply?
Students enrolled in an accredited, undergraduate degree-granting institution in the United States are eligible to apply. Participants must be 18 years old by the program start date of June 6, 2024, and the ideal applicant will be a college freshman or sophomore with an interest in learning more about economics and with an aptitude for quantitative coursework. Our goal is to recruit a diverse group of students from a broad range of backgrounds.There are no program fees for students accepted to EDE. Participants who successfully complete the program are awarded a stipend of $1,200, and Pell Grant recipients receive a stipend of $2,400. The University of Chicago will cover the costs of economy-class domestic travel, housing, and meals, including several planned outings for the group in both Chicago and Washington, DC.Attend the FINAL Office Hours Session TONIGHT!
