The Sebastian Herbstein Memorial Scholarship in Fiction Writing honors the memory of Sebastian Herbstein, a talented writer, dedicated scholar and son of BSOS professor, Judith Freidenberg. The scholarship provides two prizes, $1,000 for first prize and $600 for second prize, for works of short fiction of 5,000 words or less. All full-time UMD undergraduate students are eligible to apply (returning to UMD in Fall 2024).
