This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program that is designed to attract students with paid opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. This position is specifically for an internship in the FTC's Bureau of Economics. The Bureau's main responsibilities are providing economic analysis in support of antitrust and consumer protection investigations and conducting research on the functioning of markets in the economy.
Duties
Student Trainees will have the opportunity to develop data analysis skills and assist professional economists in performing statistical and econometric analyses to support the Bureau's mission.
As a Student Trainee (Office Automation) - Bureau of Economics Intern, you will assist economists with gathering data, preparing data for analysis, and performing economic analyses.
In addition, you will perform the following duties, which includes, but is not limited to;
- Convert file formats, check data contents, conduct basic data quality checks to assure reliability before performing econometric or other statistical analysis.
- Generate data sets from qualitative data or surveys in order to conduct econometric or other statistical analysis on these data.
- Write programs in Stata, R, or Python that summarize and describe data contents clearly and accurately.
- Write programs in Stata, SAS, R, or Python that apply statistical and econometric methods appropriately to address consumer protection and antitrust issues.
- Prepare accurate and clear graphs, tables, and other visualizations output that effectively summarize the data.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with colleagues - both orally and in writing.
- Listen, clarify ambiguities, and act on guidance by economists and supervisors.
- Work effectively and proactively with minimal supervision.
