Opportunities with Arcesium (a member the D. E. Shaw group)

Arcesium is a newly launched company intent on becoming the leading provider of technology and services solutions for the middle- and back-office needs of asset managers. The firm recently spun out of the D. E. Shaw group, and is an independently operated provider of software and services that support asset managers' post-trade activities. Arcesium provides full shadow accounting capabilities, inclusive of multi-OMS trade capture support, portfolio and reference data management, reconciliation, treasury and pricing related services, collateral management, and portfolio accounting.

Arcesium seeks a highly motivated, critical thinker to join our team of Finance Associates in a start-up environment. The position will work on profit and loss computation, position reconciliation, trade settlements and break investigation, lifecycle events, month-end trade accounting, cash management and liquidity analysis, and industry and regulatory initiatives. There are opportunities for this position to be responsible for reviewing and approving work product (e.g. financial statements, daily position and cash reconciliations, and month-end workpapers) compiled by junior colleagues. The associate will interact with clients (including trading desks, investor relations, and financial and management reporting), counterparties, and internal software development groups daily, and work closely with colleagues in our international offices. This position will have the opportunity to work on special projects in addition to the daily requirements of the position. These could include things like historical analyses for new fund launches, investigation of pricing volatility, and work with the financial reporting team on financial statements and reviewing accounting policies and accounting treatments.



The position will provide exposure to financial instruments across a wide spectrum of asset classes and markets, including highly complex derivative instruments. The associate will gain exposure to various levels of management and learn about building a business from the ground up. Arcesium is looking for a candidate to help implement policies, procedures, infrastructure, and best practices in an innovative and forward-thinking business environment. Successful candidates will have between 4-8 years of experience in trade operations and or accounting function at a hedge fund, investment manager, fund administrator, or other financial services firm, and will be proactive, detail-oriented, organized individuals. A degree in economics, accounting, finance, business, math, science, or engineering is preferred. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, and a driven self-starter with superior quantitative and problem-solving skills. Strong communication skills are imperative.
