Research Assistant Position in Child Welfare for Recent Grad

General Description:
The Child Welfare Program Area addresses the needs of children who have been or who are at risk of being abused or neglected, placed in foster care, or adopted. We focus on how child welfare and collaborative agencies are structured, funded, and administered; the policies and services implemented to address families needs; and how interaction with child welfare agencies affects the well-being of children and families. Through research and technical assistance, we seek to inform policy makers and improve front-line practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Working as part of an experienced research team, research assistants support all aspects of the research process, including idea generation, conducting studies and producing final reports. This position requires strong analytic skills and logical thinking, great attention to detail, excellent writing skills, and an interest in and enthusiasm for topics related to child welfare. Specific responsibilities include:
§ Administering structured surveys (telephone, written, online and in-person interviews) for projects requiring primary data collection.
§ Performing library research on specified topics and synthesizing material in the form of bibliographies, abstracts, memoranda and reports.
§ Participating in site visits to collect qualitative data
§ Coding and analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.
§ Tabulating and maintaining data and producing tables, graphs and other data representations. 
§ With instruction, processing data using SAS/SPSS/STATA or other such statistical packages.
§ Assisting with clerical tasks, phones, and photocopying, when necessary.
Qualifications:
§ Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience or demonstrated ability to perform entry level research in a social science field.
§ Experience with Microsoft Office required. 
§ Experience with statistical software packages preferred but not required.
