The QMSS M.A. program is an innovative and flexible interdisciplinary social science program that gives students the research skills to thrive in today’s data-rich world. The program integrates research methods from Economics, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Statistics.
QMSS focuses on quantitative approaches to the study of social issues and offers training that is methodologically rigorous while still allowing students the flexibility and opportunity to pursue research in a broad array of topics. The curriculum helps students to develop sophisticated skills in research design and statistical analysis as well as interdisciplinary fluency. Through our relationships with the various departments in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as well as Columbia’s professional schools, we have access to renowned faculty and tremendous academic resources. QMSS is administered through the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy (ISERP), where our students have opportunities to work with affiliated faculty on sponsored research. Recent graduates have gone on to some of the top social science Ph.D. programs in the country and to positions across the public, private and non-profit sectors as well as in many different fields, including finance, operations, advertising, social media, news, television, technology and academic research.
As we enter our recruiting season for the 2013-2014 academic year, we are eager to reach out to departments that have a natural connection to QMSS and are known for the high caliber of their students. Enclosed is a brochure that describes the QMSS curriculum and admissions process (please note that February 15th is the application deadline for Fall 2013 admissions). We will be hosting an on-campus open house event on November 7th where students will have the opportunity to interact with faculty, staff, students, and alumni. We will also be hosting a virtual open house on November 13th for students who are unable to attend the event on campus (click here for event details). Please feel free to forward these materials to any students who you think might benefit from our program.
