The Role in Brief:
The Education Advisory Board is the firm’s higher education practice, with membership programs serving Chief Academic Officers, Chief Business Officers, Student Affairs Executives and Community College Presidents at institutions in the United States, Canada and the U.K. Our research focuses on the university’s most pressing quality and productivity issues, performing rigorous root cause analysis and conducting hundreds of interviews with thought leaders to identify effective best practices that are shared with the membership through a series of national roundtable meetings, on-site workshops, webinars and publications.
 
We are currently seeking an individual to join the firm as a Data Analyst within the Research and Insights division (Higher Education Practice). The division’s work is compiled of research teams that analyze the strategic issues facing The Advisory Board Company's higher-education constituencies. The Data and Analytics Group is dedicated to supporting the broader research division and the firm’s overall membership through quantitative analytics and the development of novel web-based tools and applications. The incumbent will play a key role in new initiatives within the division as well as enhancements to existing systems.
 
 
This opportunity is based in Washington, D.C.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Interface with internal and external constituencies to translate quantitative results to actionable guidance
  • Collaborate with research teams to transform quantitative analyses into more customizable and user-friendly applications for members
  • Proactively advise Advisory Board staff and members on value-added uses of existing data
  • Support data analysis needs for Research and Insights division
  • Interface with internal, external clients in support of research projects and member requests
  • Scope, generate data-driven reports for internal and external clients
  • Act as content expert for comprehensive higher-education databases composed of detailed student, financial, and operational information; create, update and query databases with Microsoft SQL Server
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior executives
  • Proven quantitative, analytic and logical reasoning skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server
  • Comfort with statistical analysis of data in large databases
 
Ideal Qualifications:
  • Graduate Degree with quantitative focus
  • Experience working in a team environment, as well as independently and autonomously
  • Demonstrated experience meeting deadlines
  • Expertise in Excel (up to and including generating member-facing decision support tools through Excel design and macros
